The Toronto Blue Jays placed outfielder Anthony Santander on the injured list with left shoulder inflammation and recalled outfielder Alan Roden from Triple-A Buffalo.
A key free-agent acquisition in the offseason, Santander has instead struggled to a .179 batting average, six home runs and 18 RBIs in 50 games. His .577 OPS is his lowest in the past seven seasons.
Santander, 30, is a career .242 hitter with 161 home runs and 453 RBIs in 796 games for the Baltimore Orioles (2017-24). An All-Star for the first time last season, he has a career .764 OPS.
Roden, 25, made his major league debut on March 27. He batted .178 with one home run and five RBIs in 28 games for the Blue Jays earlier this season.
